Subtraction Word Problems 1.

1.  Louis had 11 plants. Eight of them have red flowers and the others had yellow flowers.  How many of them are yellow?

2.  Sally had 13 peaches.  She ate 2 of them. How many peaches does she have left?

3.  Sue bought some ribbon for her hair.  Sue bought 10 feet of ribbon.  Sandy bought 8 feet of ribbon for her hair. How much more ribbon does Sue have than Sandy?

4.  Mrs. Lemoine brought 24 cupcakes to school for her class. Each child got one cupcake. She has 17 children in her room. How many cupcakes were left over?

5.  The students in third grade sold tickets for the spring festival. Mrs. Lemoine's class sold 121 tickets and Mrs. Lewis's class sold 110 tickets. How many more tickets did Mrs. Lemoine's class sell than Mrs. Lewis's class?

6.  Jimmy had 120 colors in his color box.  Lacey had 143 colors in her color box. How many more colors does Lacey have than Jimmy?

7.  John is building a cabin for a school project.  He has 250 logs. He needs 320 logs. How many more logs does John need to complete the cabin?

8.  The girls make 24 cupcakes. They ate 13 of them. Then they had how many cupcakes?

9.  Michelle is reading a book. The book has 30 pages in it. She has read 13 pages. How many more pages does she have to read before she finishes the book?

10.  There are 24 marbles in the box. Nine of them belong to Jim. The rest belong to Jerry.  How many belong to Jerry?
