Christmas Story Problems 1.

Read the questions carefully, then read the story problem, then write down the correct answer.  Don't let the questions trick you.

1.  Toy got a contract with a company in Dallas, Texas.  They wanted 5,000 pine cones that were dipped in colored wax to sell during the Christmas holidays.  Toy sent them 896 red ones in August, 235 green ones in September, 1, 932 silver ones in October, and 1,957 gold ones in November? Did Toy make his quota for the company in Dallas, Texas?  How many waxed pine cones did he send the company in all?

2.   In Central Louisiana pine cones are plentiful.  Carol got an offer from a company to make wreaths for Christmas using pine cones.  On Monday she picked up 125 small pine cones. Tuesday she picked up 250 medium pine cones, and on Wednesday she picked up 197 large ones.  How many pine cones did Carol pick up in all?

3.  Merry was commissioned to paint 2500 bells for a Christmas shop.  She painted 737 silver bells with blue ribbons painted on each.   She painted 625 gold bells with rings of gold glitter.  She painted 836 red bells with holly painted on each.  She painted 535 green bells with a pine cone painted on each one.  How many bells did Merry paint in all?  Did she make her quota for the Christmas shop?

4.  Carol made Christmas bows to sell at the fall fair.  She made 100 red bows, 314 gold bows, and 567 candy cane striped bows.  How many red and gold bows did she make in all?

5.  Mrs. Noel's class was having a Christmas sell to make money for their class trip.  They sold 26 Poinsettias on Monday, 33 on Tuesday, and 215 on Wednesday.  How many Poinsettias did they sell all three days?

6.  Mr. Cheer has a large Christmas tree farm.  He sold 230 Christmas trees on December eighteenth, 173 on December twenty-third, and 212 on December twenty-fourth. How many Christmas trees did Mr. Cheer sell on all three days?

7.  Mr. Bells' class wanted to raise money to buy toys for the needy children in their area.  They decided to sell candy canes.  Star sold 234 candy canes. Winter sold 206 candy canes, and Snow sold 301 candy canes.  How many candy canes did Star and Snow sell altogether.

8.  Mr. Bells added up the money they made from the candy cane sells. The girls made 982 dollars and the boys made 1,099 dollars.  How much money did the girls and boys make in all?

9.  Mrs. Angel received 20 Christmas cards on December twenty-first, she received 10 on the twenty-second, and received 17 on the twenty-third.  How many Christmas cards did she receive altogether?

10.  Mrs. Joy had 1450 Christmas lights on her house.  She added 1125 lights down her walkway.  How many lights does she have now?

11.  Mrs. Peace hung 232 red balls on her Christmas tree, and put 50 red birds on it and a star at the top.  How many Christmas decorations does she have on her tree?

12.  Mr. Mistletoe's class gave a Christmas play at school.  The first night 150 people came to see it.  The second night 175 people came to see it, and on the third night 223 came.  It was a great success.  How many people came to see the play altogether?
